In this session, we have the pleasure to talking with Dr. Amanda Lee Salb, Head Veterinarian at Lilongwe Wildlife Trust, Head of Wildlife Rescue and Welfare and Project Manager of the Wildlife Emergency Response Unit. She is also Malawi’s first resident wildlife veterinarian. Dr. Salb earned her Bachelor’s (BA) in Biological Sciences from Mount Holyoke College, a Masters of Science (MSc) in Medical Science from the University of Calgary (where her research focused on Wildlife Epidemiology) and her DVM through Louisiana State University. In her current role, Dr. Salb wears many hats. Dr. Amanda Lee Salb oversees the Wildlife Emergency Response Unit (WERU), a partnership between the LWT and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW.) In addition, she manages the veterinary activities at LWT’s Wildlife Center. Her official title is Head Veterinarian and Wildlife Emergency Response Unit Project Manager. Dr. Salb also serves as the Head of Wildlife Rescue and Welfare. In which she is responsible for developing the Lilongwe Wildlife Trust new national wildlife rescue service. The rescue service is all about improving the welfare of wildlife across Malawi through rescues of wildlife in trouble, implementing animal confiscations, and providing education. She is the star of the hit TV series called Malawi Wildlife Rescue, which you can see now on LOVE NATURE television channel. She is a friend to the college and has hosted many of our students for research opportunities and wildlife rehabilitation and rescue experience. We are so happy that Dr. Salb has joined us for this session to discuss her role in wildlife medicine and rescue.
