An overview of the movements that occur at the major joints of the body. I have chosen to include the term "hyperextension" when demonstrating normal movement of a joint which continues past the neutral anatomical position in a posterior direction (for example, in spinal, shoulder, and hip joints). However, I recognize that there is some disagreement among health care practitioners whether this term should only be used to describe a joint moving past its anatomical limits (resulting in injury), and not be used to describe a normal degree of movement.
