Every year on January 3rd, the entire large pond is reserved for the New Year Otoshidama Tournament. As soon as reservations open, the event sells out instantly—it’s that popular. And for good reason. Even in the middle of winter, the floats move at Atsugi HC, letting you enjoy fishing with lively herabuna. On each pier, the anglers who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, as well as the “booby prize” winner, receive otoshidama. The overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the entire tournament also receive otoshidama. Getting New Year’s money as an adult feels amazing. But that’s not all. There’s also a raffle with fantastic prizes. After everyone receives a prize, there’s a second round of drawings, and at the very end, there’s a chance to win an ultra-luxurious grand prize. This time, I “got lost” at the southern fishing area—nicknamed “Antarctica”—but I still had a great time. I definitely want to join again next year.
