Amateur jockey Nina Baltromei became the first female rider to win the Deutsches Derby as she pounced late on Hochkönig to grab the Group 1 on the line from the Karl Burke-trained Convergent. Baltromei, an amateur for more than a decade, was having her first ride in the Classic and surged home to become the first female jockey to win a national Derby that is part of the European Pattern. It comes 46 years after Monika Blasczyk became the first female jockey to ride in the race. The rider was welcomed back with a rapturous reception from the crowd having become just one of a few women to ride a German Classic winner, four years on from the landmark first success for Sibylle Vogt in the German 1,000 Guineas in 2021.
