Saint Thomas Aquinas School is steeped in rich history and heritage. Founded in 1924 by the Dominican Sisters of King Williams Town, the school has grown to become one of Mpumalanga’s premier schools. Our heritage continues to define our future. Learning opportunities range from dissections in the biology lab, establishing the pH of substances in Physical Science, to cooking delicious meals in consumers and learning how to be tech savvy in CAT. St Thomas strives for academic excellence, achieving a 100% matric pass rate for 46 consecutive years and even boasting with a 100% bachelor Degree pass rate in the year 2020. Starting in Grade 1, through to grade 12, pupils are taught to reason and read with understanding. Our students’ outstanding achievements obtained year after year are testament to the tireless effort and dedication of our teachers. Culturally, learners are afforded the opportunity to express themselves on the stage, through music and the fine arts. Our cultural opportunities allow students to grow in self-confidence, which inspires creativity. Colourful Theatrical productions are held on an annual basis, creating thrilling memories that learners carry with them forever. Not only is drama showcased, but so is the ever-growing choir and of course our accomplished marimba teams who’s musical compositions reverberate throughout the school. Since inception, sport has been an integral part of the holistic education offered at our school, promoting physical fitness while developing character. Swimming, soccer, netball, tennis, hockey and cricket are offered from grade RRR through to grade 9. St Thomas has a proud record of past and present learners who have represented the Mpumalanga province in various sports disciplines. Our school also recognises sporting achievements received outside of school such as golf and gymnastics. Sporting activities provide learners with opportunities to grow as individuals in sportsmanship, work together in team building, learning how to fail forward and succeeding with grace. Whether it is training the brain in chess, building stamina, swimming kilometers in the pool, running across the field in soccer or carefully aiming the ball to get it in the hoop in Netball, there is really a sporting activity for every student to enjoy. St Thomas is an IEB school offering matric learners opportunities to study abroad as the certificate is recognized in other countries. Learner’s acquire the skills required for teamwork, independent research, self-knowledge and critical thinking through the highest standards of quality teaching offered at the school.
