So, seeing as I'm going to be out of action with uploads for a little while, I thought I would throw in a face turning octahedron tutorial to tie things over until I return. A cute little puzzle from Lanlan, not especially difficult, but a nice puzzle that uses a combination of strategies borrowed from other 3 layer puzzles, the diamond skewb, and the master skewb. Step one: Solve the corners as we did the diamond skewb Step two: Solve the edges using the typical 3 layer edge rotating algorithm, but adapted to the 3 sided shape: R U Ri U R U Ri U. This will rotate the edges clockwise. Counterclockwise, just reverse with : Ri Ui R Ui Ri Ui R Ui Step 3: Solve the centers using the criss cross/middle layer commutator used with the master skewb, which will cycle the three centers shown. I also took this opportunity to demonstrate how to approach a new puzzle by correlating it with similar known puzzles. The first 15 minutes is strategy and cube philosophy, the last 15 minutes is the actual solve! Not to mention, a cube related injury occurring at around 28:48.
