Chinese Corner In Schools, a Unique Platform For Cultural, Educational Exchanges - Jianxing

On the heels of recent announcement by the Federal Capital Territory Administration of intended move to implement the newly reviewed secondary school curriculum to enable students offer Chinese language, Mandarin as a foreign language, the Chinese government has inaugurated a Chinese Corner at the Government Secondary School, Nyanya, Abuja. The Corner is the second unveiled in two days after that of Government Secondary School, Tudun Wada in the nation's capital city. The project is part of CGC Nigeria Limited corporate social responsibility across secondary schools in FCT. Speaking at the Inauguration Ceremony of the "Chinese Corner" at GSS Nyanya, the Director, China Cultural Centre, Nigeria, Yang Jianxing said the "Corner" is a unique platform for cultural and educational exchanges. On his part, the Executive Director, China Geo Engineering Corporation, CGC Nigeria Ltd, Che Yuan said his company is committed to giving back to Nigeria through his contribution to education after providing reliable, high-quality infrastructure in the nation's capital as a trusted partner to the FCT Administration for nearly two decades. The Director, FCT Secondary Education Board, Muhammed Ladan, described the new corner as a hub for learning Mandarin, accessing scholarships, and advancing people-to-people diplomacy. He said the first Chinese Corner was established at GSS Garki in 2013, followed by eleven more in 2014, and another in 2024 at GSS Wuse Zone 3 and now in GSS Tudun Wada and GSS Nyanya respectively. While the Secretary for Education, FCT, Danlami Hayyo, pointed out the strategic role of the Chinese Corners in shaping future opportunities for Nigerian students. It is of note that twelve years ago, out of the cherishment for China-Nigeria friendly relations and the expectation for cultural exchanges between the two countries, the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria and the FCT Secondary Education Board established the ‘Chinese Corner’ as a unique platform for cultural and educational exchanges.
