Surah Al-Waqiah is the 56th chapter of the Holy Quran, consisting of 96 verses. Revealed in Makkah, it is one of the most powerful and vivid Surahs describing the Day of Judgment (Qiyamah) — the inevitable event that no one can deny. The Surah begins by declaring the certainty of the Last Day, when humanity will be divided into three groups: The Foremost (As-Sabiqun) — the closest to Allah, receiving the greatest rewards The Companions of the Right (Ashab al-Yamin) — the righteous believers enjoying immense blessings in Paradise The Companions of the Left (Ashab al-Shimal) — those who rejected faith, facing severe punishment in the Fire It beautifully describes the delights of Jannah (fruits, pure spouses, eternal comfort, flowing rivers) and the torments of Hell (boiling water, the bitter tree of Zaqqum, scorching fire), while reminding us of Allah’s power in creation — from human life and plants to rain and the stars — as clear signs for reflection. Known as the "Surah of Wealth" or "Surah of Rizq" among many Muslims, it is widely recited every night based on the popular narration (attributed to the Prophet ﷺ) that whoever recites Surah Al-Waqiah nightly will never be afflicted by poverty.
