I arranged the song you hear on Boulder Canyon in Diddy Kong Racing to play in Donkey Kong 64! It includes all three sections of the song: in the canyon, at the castle gate, and in the sewers. I love how the song transitions between the different sections of the course: from the simple yet infectious groove in the canyon, to the foreboding sounds of the castle gate, to the dark undertones of the sewers, then back again to the bouncy tune from the beginning. Some limitations with the DK64 soundfont meant certain instruments were lowered an octave. To compensate, I doubled the bari sax with an english horn in the first section, and the bass clarinet with a clarinet in the sewers section. This song would work best in any outside areas like Jungle Japes or Gloomy Galleon in DK64. I hope you enjoy the music, thanks for listening!🎧🎶 This arrangement/conversion was created for the DK64 Randomizer, check it out here: 🍌https://dk64randomizer.com🍌 How does this work? Songs in DK64 are in a format called MIDI, and I use a program, FL Studio, to compose music in this format. However, converting songs from a game to DK64 is not just a simple swap; songs must be arranged for DK64's particular soundfont, which is a limited selection of instruments used for that specific game. Thus, alterations are made during the conversion/arranging process to make what plays in DK64 sound similar to the original song. Once I'm finished making the music, I use a few other programs to insert the song into the DK64 Randomizer ROM, then I record what plays in-game, which is what you hear in this video!
