In Doctrine and Covenants 3-5, we learn important lessons about listening to God and trusting His plan. Joseph Smith faced a big challenge when the first 116 pages of the Book of Mormon translation were lost. He had allowed Martin Harris to take the pages, even though God warned him not to. When the pages were lost, Joseph felt very sad and realized he needed to follow God’s instructions exactly. In Section 3, God reminds Joseph to repent and keep trusting Him. God explains that His work will always move forward, even when people make mistakes. Section 4 is a special message for Joseph’s father, teaching that anyone who wants to serve God with all their heart can help in His work. It reminds us to have faith, hope, and love. In Section 5, Martin Harris is given another chance to help. God tells him that three special witnesses will see the golden plates and know they are real. This teaches us to trust God’s promises.
