TITLE: I Found “Little Tokyo” in Calinan, Davao City | IMIN Philippine-Japan Historical Museum Did you know that Davao was once called “Little Tokyo”? In this vlog, I visited the IMIN Philippine-Japan Historical Museum located inside the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School in Durian Village, Calinan, Davao City. This hidden gem holds over 100 years of shared history between Filipinos and Japanese migrants who helped shape Davao into what it is today. From the arrival of Japanese workers in 1903 to the rise of the abaca industry, the innovation of the Hagutan machine, and the emotional stories during and after World War II, this museum takes you through a powerful journey of migration, growth, struggle, and reconciliation. At one point, around 20,000 Japanese settlers lived in Davao, making it the largest Japanese migrant community in Southeast Asia during that time. That’s how Davao earned the nickname “Little Tokyo.” We also tried their kimono rental for only 100 pesos for the full experience. It’s definitely worth it and perfect for photo ops if you’re planning to visit. If you love local history, hidden gems, and learning more about Davao’s cultural roots, this place is a must-visit. 📍 Location: IMIN Philippine-Japan Historical Museum Inside Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School Durian Village, Calinan, Davao City 🕒 Open: Monday to Saturday | 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM 🎟 Entrance Fee: 100 pesos – Adults 80 pesos – Seniors and PWD 50 pesos – Students 👘 Kimono Rental: 100 pesos Let’s support local museums and keep our history alive.
