In this SySS (https://www.syss.de/) proof-of-concept video, SySS IT security expert Matthias Deeg demonstrates a rather simple but yet effective attack against many radio-based systems, namely a reactive jamming attack. In a reactive jamming attack, an attacker reacts to specific wireless transmissions and only tries to disrupt those. The general idea of jamming attacks is to exploit the used shared medium, meaning the electromagnetic spectrum. Thus, an attacker tries to disrupt a targeted radio transmission using a specific wavelength/frequency by simply transmitting his own radio signal interfering with the original one. If successful, this results in the intended receiver of the radio transmission not being able to correctly receive the original signal anymore. For demonstrating this kind of attack, the security vulnerability SYSS-2019-004 [1] (CVE-2019-14261) which was publicly disclosed in July 2019 is exploited in this proof-of-concept video. In the demo attack against an ABUS Secvest wireless alarm system and its wireless motion detector, a GreatFET One [2] by Great Scott Gadgets with its neighbor Erica [3] created by Thomas Detert is used. Erica provides four Texas Instruments CC1101 transceivers tuned for different frequency bands (315 MHz, 433 MHZ, 868 MHz, 915 MHz). Two transceivers per frequency band allow for short reaction times required in specific test cases, far instance concerning reactive jamming attacks. Using the Python software tool Reactive Jammer developed by Matthias Deeg based on a jamming tool by Thomas Detert, a reactive jamming attack against the vulnerable ABUS Secvest wireless alarm system can be conducted with ease - and there is no sound of the police. =) [1] SySS Security Advisory SYSS-2019-004, 2019 https://www.syss.de/fileadmin/dokumen...
