One Ring to Rule Them All

THE HISTORY OF THE RING THEME, a theme for The One Ring, is used "whenever the One Ring changes hands or marks significant progress in its journey". (Doug Adams, CR-FOTR liner notes, page 7) The music is light, almost lyrical, throughout FOTR and TTT. But in ROTK, the History of the Ring combines with the Evil of the Ring (Mordor/Sauron). The minor key and reedy rhaita of Sauron's theme give a more menacing tone to the History of the Ring. MORDER/SAURON aka THE EVIL OF THE RING THEME, has two names and is assigned to two categories: Mordor and The One Ring. The theme represents "the Ring's "character... (and its) effect on the world." (Doug Adams, CR--FOTR liner notes, page 29) and "the most villainous inclinations of the Ring and for Mordor itself." (Doug Adams, CR--FOTR liner notes, page 9) Since this music has been identified as Sauron's Theme from the inception of the site, I will continue to use that as the primary name.    • The Eye of Sauron   THE SEDUCTION OF THE RING, a theme for The One Ring, "represents the One Ring's overwhelming allure." (Doug Adams, CR-FOTR liner notes, page 8) The theme often uses boy's voices singing lyrics from The Seduction of the Ring or humming the melody. THE FATE OF THE RING, a theme for The One Ring, appeared once as an "incomplete phrase" in the TTT. It reappeared in the ROTK as the Fourth Age Theme, THE DESTRUCTION OF THE RING, not while we see the destruction of the Ring but when we see the result of the Ring's destruction has on Barad-dûr and the lands surrounding it.
