⚠️ BREAKING NEWS ⚠️ The LWC just rescued a new flock of 275 endangered African grey parrots! That brings the number of individuals rescued in 2019 to 379 individuals. The cost for 6 months of care before release is $50,000! We truly desperately need your help. Last Christmas Eve, our team was alerted of the confiscation of over 200 African grey parrots at the Douala Bonabéri seaport. In only a few hours, our team prepared 6 cages filled with browse and enrichment along with hundreds of kilograms of food, medical supplies, and manpower to properly receive these new rescues. Upon arrival, many were in critical condition and in need of intensive care. Our team immediately administered each individual anti-parasite treatment for both lice and external parasites. They were also ringed for identification and monitoring and their body condition was evaluated. All individuals were sorted into 3 different groups based on their presumed age: immature, juvenile, and adult. They will now go through a quarantine period during which we will have to perform individual health checks. Once their time in our quarantine is over, we will transfer all fit parrots into our new rehabilitation aviary where they will prepare for future release. We are now caring for 345 African grey parrots and this is not an easy and cheap job. We currently have to prepare over 70 kilograms of food every day in addition to daily vitamin supplements, medical treatments, and large amounts of greens bought twice a week for a total weekly cost of almost $2,000. This is no easy amount of money for us to gather and we are lacking important medical and technical material such as specialised gloves for handling, syringes, or even tubes for blood sampling. Today, we are looking for any help we can get as you have all proven to be such important and faithful supporters. Many of our projects could not have been possible without your contributions. If you wish to help us, maybe as a 2020 resolution, there are a few ways possible, such as starting a fundraiser, making a donation (financial or material), or contacting bigger organisations for donations. Feel free to contact us by email at [email protected] or to visit our website directly at limbewildlife.org/donate. Together, we can make a difference and better protect these African grey parrots! ❤️ . . . #AfricanGreyParrots #Parrots #Birds #WildlifeTrade #PetTrade #IllegalPetTrade #ProtectWildlife #Cameroon #Africa #Aviary #ParrotAviary #RehabilitationAviary #ParrotRescue #ParrotRehabilitation #BirdRescue #BirdRehabilitation #BirdRelease #ParrotRelease #Wild #Wildlife #Animals #WildlifeRescue #WildlifeRehabilitation #WildlifeRelease #Endangered #EndangeredSpecies #Conservation #BirdConservation #WildlifeConservation
