The Hardest Badminton Tournament of my Life | Tournament Vlog

Even though I already work full time as a coach and I am not playing any international events anymore like I did a few years ago, I still love to compete on national events. In contrary to international tournaments where you usually have maximum 1-2 matches a day, it can happen that you have tons of matches with very short breaks on this small amateur toruanemnts. In this vlog I want to give some insights how I handled that stress, hopefully some of you can relate and feel with me ;) -- My conclusion of the tournament ------------------------------------------------- After the tournament it took me one week, until I had the first light on court session again. I had a hard time taking stairs the first few days and the right leg felt tired for about 10 days. So many players at the tournament asked me how I can be so fit, but to be honest I wasn’t fit at all. I had very little training the last couple of weeks and I think there were only two things that helped me playing all these matches. I did a lot of power training for my legs, so I felt really explosive and especially in the first few matches I didn’t have to push with full power but could still cover the court without spending too much energy. Also my shot quality was pretty good, so that also helped me to keep rallies short, avoid too much running and minimize my on court time on Saturday. But I think the more important thing was the mental aspect. Like I said, pretending that you are fit can make a huge difference for your opponent but also for yourself. I think usually it is always the head that gives up before the legs, there is always a bit more energy left to play another ralley even though you thought that you are done, a couple of matches ago. So fighting through that and winning that battle within was defintly one of my highlights of the tournament. In addition to that it was also great to play with players that I coach (Ella and Justin just started their international careers), and see how they progress and perform well on tournaments.
