N: 那当然就是现在的顶流冰墩墩啦 Bing Dwen Dwen is a chubby panda with a suit of ice, a heart of gold, and a love of winter sports.  It is ready to share the true spirit of the Olympics with the whole world. J: 对，我特别特别喜欢它的冰衣的设计 it's a symbol of purity and strength, and the characteristics of the Winter Olympics C: Yeah, it's just sooo cute. Jan 你有没有看到冰墩墩那张抖雪时憨态可掬的动图，实在是太可爱了。 J: Yeah so glad I got 6 Bing dwen dwen merch a few days ago!  C: Merch就是 merchandise的简称，表示周边或者纪念品，Wait, what?  You got six of them?  J: Yeah, I got several Bing Dwen Dwen keychains, a commemorative coin and a key buckle. 前几天在冬奥会开幕之前还特意买了6个冰墩墩的纪念品，有钥匙扣，纪念章之内的。 C: 你这可太凡尔赛了，现在可以一墩难求，而你六墩在手，可太令人羡慕了! J：Yeah I heard that in a sign of Bing Dwen Dwen's insane popularity, most of the mascot-themed items have sold out. C: sold out就是卖完的意思，因为实在是太火了， J: Yeah, they are now out of stock. So Norah what Bing Dwen Dwen merch do you want most?  C: 那当然就是带金边的冰墩墩啦 J： 那个冰墩墩只能靠在奥运会上拿牌才能得到啦 C： That's true. 虽然离金边冰墩墩还差一个奥运冠军的距离，但是作为普通观众能够欣赏到运动员们如此精彩的比赛，确实也是一件很幸福的事情。 J: 对，比如前几天的短道速滑项目，实在是太精彩了 C：Yeah it's one of my favorite sports to watch in the Winter Olympics for sure! J: Hey, how about we talk about this in today's podcast? C: 好，那今天呢 我们就来聊一聊一些火热开场的短道速滑项目。 J：那我们先来说一说短道速滑的英文名称的吧 N：那短道速滑在英文中就是叫做 short track speed skating.  J: track就是运动员比赛的赛道，short track指的就是短道，短道速滑跟速度滑冰很大的不同点就在于它的场地。 N： Yeah, 速度滑冰是一项在400米赛道上较量滑行速度的冰上体育运动。 J: And the short track events occur on a 111-meter oval track. 短道速滑的场地一圈只有111米长。 N： Yeah that's why it's called short track cuz it's shorter. J: 对，而我们刚刚说到的速度滑冰就是叫做speed skating, 所以短道速滑也就是把短道short track和速滑speed skating连起来 short track speed skating. N: Jan do you perfer to watch speed skating or short track speed skating? J: Of course short track speed skating. N: And the reason is？ J: Well unlike in speed skating, competitors in short track speed skating race against one another - not the clock. 速度滑冰主要是跟时间赛跑，而短道速滑的话是参赛者之间在一起直接的较量，所以这样的话短道速滑不仅仅要比拼速度，还要比策略，胆识和技巧。 N：Yeah, short track races are full of strategy, bravery, skill and high-intensity excitement. J： 是的，短道速滑因此也就更加惊险和刺激嘛，因为这项运动中的变数实在是太多了。 C： 对，感觉每次看短道速滑都需要一颗大心脏。 J： 或者是得吃速效救心丸，因为实在是太戏剧性了。So dramatic.  C： Yeah you can never predict what will happen till the last second, 不到最后一秒钟，根本就无法预测最终的结果。 J：是的，而这个项目也可以说是我们中国队的强项。 C: That's true. 目前我们中国对在这个项目混合团体接力中取得了金牌，混合团体接力在英文中就叫做Mixed team relay. relay就是接力的意思。 J：这也是我们中国队的首金， It's China's first gold medal.  C: 没错，首金就叫做 first gold medal，或者直接缩略成就是first gold也可以。 J：对了， 你看了7号晚上男子1000米短道速滑的比赛嘛？ C：Of course，how can I miss it? 作为短道迷当然不能错过这么精彩的比赛啦 男子1000米短道的英文就叫做men's 1000m short track. J： 没错，而在这个项目中，中国取得了第二块金牌  N：Yeah I watched it live and it was really dramatic, I felt like I couldn't breathe. J: 我也是，看直播的时候简直紧张地都没法呼吸了, 因为夺冠的过程实在是太曲折了。 N： It took an official review and a couple of penalties dished out, but in the end, China's Ren Ziwei won the gold in the men's 1000m short track. C：对，这次比赛中真的是状况百出，有人摔出去，有人被裁判判罚出局，本来在决赛中匈牙利的刘少林是最快划过终点的，但是因为犯规被判罚出局。 N：那判罚在英文当中就叫做penalty 就是对违规行为根据规则进行处理叫“处罚” a disadvantage or handicap imposed on a player or team, typically for infringement of rules. J:是的， 那给予判罚就可以用动词dish out， The judge dished out several penalties就是说裁判给出了几个判罚。 C：对，这场比赛太戏剧性了， 也非常精彩，但最终我们中国队干干净净拿下了这块宝贵的金牌。 J： Yeah, and in addition to the outstanding short track speed skating competition, Wang Meng's commentary was also wonderful. C：是的，不仅比赛好看，王濛的解说也同样精彩。The hashtag #WangMeng Commentary topped the list of most searched topics on Weibo, with 1.32 billion views. J: top在这里是一个动词表示登顶的意思。王濛的解说都顶了热搜。 N：Have you watched her commentary videos? 你看了她解说的视频嘛？实在是太有激情了。N: Her unique way of explaining has attracted the love of netizens. J： Yeah, during the race, she barely sat down. She jumped up and down, waved her arms and cheered for the Chinese team. N: jump up and down就是 上蹿下跳，她整个解说的时候基本就没有坐下来过，非常有激情。 J： And she's very passionate, also professional and humorous. N: 没错，不仅是有激情，而且在专业中带有幽默。professonial就是专业的意思。 J：对，而她的解说也非常幽默金句频出 N：Yeah， for example, My eyes are like rulers. 我的眼睛就是尺。 J： And I really like how passionate when she said, You can always trust the Chinese short track speeding team! 你永远可以相信中国短道速滑队。 N： 所以说王濛不仅仅在滑冰赛场上有强大的统治力，在赛事解说界展示了自己强大的能力。 J： Right, okay I think that's all the time we have for today's podcast.
