We took on the Hopi Salt Trail, one of the Grand Canyon’s most rugged and least-known routes, in just ONE DAY. This trail descends over 3,000 feet to the Colorado River and offers jaw-dropping solitude, history, and adventure. IMPORTANT NOTE: Most hikers do not recommend doing the Hopi Salt Trail in one day. It’s extremely steep, exposed, and has no water until the river. We trained, started before sunrise, and carried extra water and electrolytes. Trail Route: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/ar... Tips: -Start early (around 4–5 AM) to beat the heat, the climb back up is brutal in the sun. -Bring at least 2 gallons of water per person, plus snacks high in salt and energy. -GPS navigation is essential, parts of the trail are faint and cairns can be hard to spot. Make sure to download the all trails map before. There is NO SERVICE. -Expect to scramble and navigate loose rock. Trekking poles help a lot. I also used gloves which I found really helpful. -Camping at the river is ideal if you have a backcountry permit, but know that campsites are primitive. -There’s no shade and no cell service, so plan accordingly. The trailhead is accessed via Hwy 89 and Navajo Route 6130 near Cameron, AZ (high-clearance vehicle recommended). YOU MUST GET A PERMIT TO HIKE HERE! This hike was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I’ve ever done, and definitely not for beginners. If you’re considering it, research deeply, prepare well, and respect the land.
