Creating a Construction Paper Model to Prepare for the Clay Enclosed Slab Boxes

This video covers how to make a construction paper model of a slab box form. One of the BIGGEST take-aways I want my students to understand is that if a piece is supposed to look symmetrical, they must use a folded line of symmetry to create a symmetrical piece. This can be used in sculpture with paper and cardboard, or as we use it, with tar paper and clay. This method of working with slabs involves using tar paper. Without using a line of symmetry, the form normally looks "off" and less precise and sophisticated. Tar paper is roofing paper ( in the US it is available at home improvement and hardware stores). I use the lighter weight- I think it might be 15 lb as opposed to the 30 lb weight. It is sold in big rolls near roofing materials. * Note* you don’t want to use the fiberglass embedded tar paper as this is problematic in handling.
