The CRL Rights Commission presented its Report to Parliament a few weeks ago. The Commission embarked on hearings across the country, as part of its investigation into the commercialisation of religion, and abuse of people's belief systems. The rationale for the study included gaining a deeper understanding of a number of issues. They comprised religious and traditional healing practices, regulation and compliance monitoring, as well as funding and financial accounting practices, amongst others. One of the key recommendations is for every registered religious leader to have a location where he or she conducts religious ceremonies. Referred to as Worship Centres, each would then freely from their various umbrella organisations. But what kind of resistance did the Commission encounter during the hearings?
