Up onto Bredon Hill for the last block of 65ha of winter barley. It’s still SY Sensation planted at the beginning of October 2023. The field sits about 800’ above sea level and is good Cotswold brash soil with varying degrees of stone (size and content). The moisture has dropped nicely today and when it reached about 14.5% it was straight into the grain store without any drying. The straw is lovely and ripe and with very little wind the chop and spread pattern is really good through the Redekop chopper. These fields are going to be planted with Oilseed Rape in about a weeks time. Before that we will apply some poultry litter as a starter fertiliser for the newly planted seeds.
