In today’s video, Stu’s ears are put to the test by his partner and fellow-musician Annie Bonsignore, serving up three different samples of a Hamburg Steinway D, Yamaha CFX, and Kawai SK-EX. Each piano presents a different tonal and pianistic experience, and Stu walks through how he hears and feels the nuanced differences between the three great 9’ concert pianos. Whether it’s the warm mids and ultra-colourful trebles of the Kawai, to Yamaha’s nicely rounded tenor and strengthened ‘soprano’ range, to the Hamburg’s broad bass and naturally resonant treble. Then, as an added bonus, Annie Bonsignore sings over all three and gives her preference for the sound she most prefers singing with. It’s all incredibly subjective and personal, but we hope you enjoy Stu and the guest’s take on these instruments and what sets them apart.
