With it also being plugged into a 120V 15 Amp outlet, ti will also run when cloudy or even dark. The unit always uses the solar power first, making up any shortage from the plug in power. even if running 100% on house power (120VAC) it is extremely efficient, using very little power for the cooling or heating it provides
