In their local language, the Word Wodaabe means people of the taboo in reference to their relative freedom of marriage and sexuality which is based on older Fulani traditions including adultery and polygamy. Though the first marriage of any Wodaabe man or woman is normally arranged by the parents of the two parties from a very young age, the Wodaabe don’t practice Monogamy and there is no shame in both married men and women having lovers.
