For more information, go to: thehealthyweighoutcircleofhope.mn.co. How to Stop Overeating Binge eating, emotional eating, compulsive overeating, and yo-yo dieting are all driven by something far deeper than a simple lack of willpower. These behaviors are rooted in earlier life experiences, in which we learned how to use food as an effective means to deal with distressing, overwhelming emotions that were not able to be expressed. In this episode of WeighOut Wednesday, our program's co-founder, Dr. Ashley Southard, discusses how an image-focused home environment and family system can set the stage for this child, who then becomes an adult, to develop and struggle with overeating as a means of dealing with this early life stress and felt sense of inadequacy. She discusses various aspects of one's 'image' that a family can focus on, and then explains how this focus impacts the child's emotional and psychological development. She also offers tips for what adults can do differently today to change the focus within themselves, away from a false image and towards a connection with one's real self. Dr. Ashley is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Arizona. She is the Site Director at A New Beginning Outpatient Treatment Center, the premier center for the treatment of eating disorders and related issues; and she is also the Co-Founder of TheHealthyWeighOut Emotional and Binge Eating Weight Loss Program. She has dedicated her clinical career to helping people affected by eating disorders and trauma, and believes that full recovery from eating disorders is absolutely possible!
