How to make an AC Powered Hot Water Air Heater! very easy to set up! Only 4 main parts: 8x8 heat exchanger, AC Powered Desk Fan, small water pump (ac or dc) and cardboard! that's it! - and it only takes like 2 minutes to throw together. The fan i chose to use has a very smooth/quiet sound, while also having a strong airflow (8-12 mph)! ...it also matches up with the fins of the heat exchanger almost exactly *making it a highly effective unit. temp and wind speed tests are included in the vid. couple of notes: heat exchanger is rated to 25,600 BTU's. *that translates to roughly 1000 sq. ft. of coverage. this, of course, varies depending on how warm the water is. i've used water as low as 90F and still got good heat output. (upper end is probably 170-180F). side note: fill it with cold water for an air cooler! More detail on the fan - i bought that one 8 to 10 years ago at kmart for $15. been using it almost daily with no problems. it's called a "chill out" fan. super powerful and super quiet. note: i have no connection with the makers of the fan. i'm recommending it only because it really is the perfect fan for this project. has a very strong motor and pulls the air thru the fins with ease (currently on amazon for $19.99). pump used is a 12v 350 gph bilge (water) pump. any pump AC or DC that has a rating from 200 gph to 400 gph should work. tubing is 1" internal diameter. pipe i used is rated to 175 F. everything you need... heat exchanger, fan, water pump can all be found on amazon. links for the main parts (as well as several video links to other air heaters and coolers i've made using heat exchangers) are listed below. the whole trick with these is having a source of warm or hot water. if you've got that then these are an awesome option for air heating. *air cooling too - with a source of cold water. so it can potentially be used year round! sources of "free" or semi-free hot water could be solar thermal coil style water heaters, DC water heating elements *attached to solar panels ... or even wood fired boiler style stoves and/or rocket stoves. lastly, if you want to run this totally off grid (solar etc...) i included a short clip in the vid showing how to use a DC powered fan.
