Japan has "four seasons," and spring in Kagawa Prefecture, where Naoshima is located, and in neighboring Okayama Prefecture comes mainly between March and April. Last year, I created Naoshima Spring 2022, which did not show many cherry blossoms, partly because it was the first video I created. Therefore, I have created this 2023 video to show you the cherry blossoms blooming all over the island of Naoshima. Tadao Ando is a world-renowned architect, but did you know that he is also an artist who creates his own works of art? In this opening video, I wanted to make more people aware of LABYRINTH OF CHERRY BLOSSOM, a work by this Tadao Ando. The works by Tadao Ando are actually on display in the Benesse House Museum on Naoshima. Two wooden chairs in the space where Bruce Nauman's artwork, "100 Live and Die," is exhibited were created by Tadao Ando. Takuya Matsunoki is my friend. Takuya Matsunoki is an artist who exhibited his artwork "Value Art Tax (Nothing But the Original), 芸術品以外お断り" at "OUT OF BOUNDS" on Naoshima from September to November 1994. "OUT OF BOUNDS" featured artwork by Yayoi Kusama and Hiroshi Sugimoto, who were beginning to attract attention from critics around the world at the time, as well as Shinro Ohtake, Kazuo Katase, and Takashi Murakami. The "Yellow Pumpkin" and "Sea Scapes," both of which continue to draw attention today, were exhibited at the 1994 "OUT OF BOUNDS" exhibition, and those famous art pieces have been on display from 1994 until now. In 2018 I met Takuya Matsunoki in Malaysia and we keep in touch regularly even after I moved to Thailand and Japan. Last year, I learned from a SNS message sent by Takuya Matsunoki that the artwork he created still exists on Naoshima. So I wanted to showcase his artwork in this YouTube video. With this video, I am happy to see that wish come true. However, please understand that Takuya Matsunoki's artwork, Value Art Tax (Nothing But the Original), is placed in a restricted area under the control of the Benesse Group, so you will not be able to see it up close. Since 2023, Naoshima has seen as many tourists as it did before the pandemic. As before, I hope that tourists from Europe, North America, South America, and other Asian countries like China, as well as Australia and New Zealand, will visit us. 00:00 Opening 00:48 LABYRINTH OF CHERRY BLOSSOM / Tadao Ando 06:01 Go'o Shrine, Art House Project / Hiroshi Sugimoto 06:51 Minamidera, Art House Project / James Turrel 08:23 Value Art Tax (Nothing But the Original) 芸術品以外お断り / Takuya Matsunoki 09:10 Chichu Garden 10:11 Naoshima Elementary School / Kazuhiro Ishii 11:03 Naoshima Bath "I♥︎湯" / Shinro Ohtake Instagram: / setouchi_relaxation_films
