Back in the olden days, a stonecutter toils in the hot sun every day until the spirit of the mountain grants his wishes to have any life he chooses to have. What life will he ultimately choose in the end? This story is from Tinkle Comics' festival special 2002. This is a Japanese folktale, but its origins are highly similar to those of Panchatantra stories or Jataka Tales. Indian Story Read Along reads old and new books, some from the storyteller's own childhood library, and some recent publications. We started this channel because our old books were falling apart, and we wanted to share the stories in them before they were lost forever. The stories we choose are mostly cultural, with a few being mythological and/or religious. All take place on the Indian subcontinent or feature a main character who is South Asian. The amount of violence in the stories we choose is little to none, so you will not find certain popular mythological tales here.
