Richard P. John (b. 1981) — Canon (2026) for organ Carson Cooman, organ Welsh composer and pianist Richard P. John (b. 1981) was born in Neath and was educated at the Royal College of Music (London). His teachers included Mary Rees, Yonty Solomon, Edwin Roxburgh, and Kenneth Hesketh. Richard has performed extensively at a range of venues including Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Chipping Campden Music Festival, Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Cheltenham Town Hall, and at Buckingham Palace. He has made many television appearances and has worked with a wide variety of performers, including Max Bygraves, Isla St. Clair, Sir Willard White, Geri Halliwell, Connie Fisher, John Owen Jones, and Rhydian Roberts. Richard's compositional output consists of solo, vocal, ensemble and choral music, as well as the soundtrack to several independent films. Dedicated to contemporary and experimental music, Richard has recorded music by composers Dan Phelps, Sophie Stone, Kory Reeder, Jukka-Pekka Kervinen, and Paul Beaudoin. In 2021 he founded August Two Editions, a label dedicated to experimental music. He also performs with the recently-formed Mainly Slow Ensemble.
