Our first episode starts with stories from Rustom Dastur aka Dusty. Back in the day, he kick-started the two-wheeler motorcycle scene in Chennai. He inspired some of his friends and they started the Twin Motorcycle Club (Chennai's first two-wheeler club) and then, along with Madras Motorsport Club, they sowed the seeds of two-wheeler racing in Sholavaram. The Sholavaram airstrip holds a legendary status in Indian motorsport history. Once a WWII airstrip racing circuit, it later became famous as the Sholavaram race track, hosting iconic events like the Sholavaram Grand Prix, Sholavaram race, Sholavaram races, Sholavaram bike race, and Sholavaram Fiat racing. From Cholavaram car race to Sholavaram bike sprints, the track turned into a hotspot for early Indian motorsports. Many race car constructors and formula car racers kickstarted their careers here, speeding in their formula cars during thrilling formula car racing events. The track also saw exciting car race battles and was closely tied with the Madras Motorsport Club and Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC), which later helped establish permanent circuits like the Madras International Circuit, Madras Motor Race Track, and the Irungattukottai Race Track. These are now some of the top motor racing circuits in India, with Chennai continuing the racing spirit through events like the Chennai race, Chennai car race, and Madras races. Sholavaram's legacy paved the way for the first racing track in India and contributed to the rise of motor racing in Chennai and the broader Indian motorsport history. Events like the MRF Challenge, Indian Motorcycle Drag Racing Championship, and Indian National Racing Championship owe much to these early tracks.
