When Laura wakes up in the morning, she is excited to go to her job at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. She's energized, amped. As in, kicking-butt-and-taking-names amped. Not because her life is so easy, but because it’s hard. A challenging life is an exciting life. There’s something special at happens to us when we try to do what seems impossible that’s different from working toward something we know we can do. Challenge is what drives us. Challenge provides us with opportunity, challenge forces us to grow, challenge opens the way for amazing achievement. Laura Faye Tenenbaum is an innovator in science communication. As the Senior Science Editor for the Webby Award winning website NASA’s Global Climate Change, a member of the Earth Science Communications Team at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the author of the Earth Right Now blog, she develops interactive new media products to engage the public in climate and Earth science. She has also held a faculty position in the Physical Science Department at Glendale Community College for 13 years. Ms. Tenenbaum studied Marine Science at the University of California, Santa Cruz as both an undergraduate and graduate student. She worked as an Underwater Researcher on the Kelp Forest Project at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Santa Monica Baykeepers, and the World Wildlife Fund in Thailand. Her goal is to bring science, multimedia and education together to attract a highly motivated and enthusiastic new generation that will be ready to take on the huge environmental challenges we face. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
