Homeless Aboriginal people in Darwin are often called "Long grass People" or "Longgrassers" because their camps are hidden in the long grass. They are also known as "Itinerants" because they move between the city and country areas or Aboriginal Lands in the Northern Territory/. Othres are long term residents who have been evicted from housing or cannot find accommodation. All are harassed by police and City Council Rangers. Their camps are broken up and their belongings removed or burnt. In 2005 the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission) "Message Stick" program interviewed long grass people and those who work with them. This video is taken from interviews in that TV program.
