Stabilizing Wood Pt2

This is segment 2 (of 3) where we demonstrate the process of stabilizing wood, specifically dry, lightweight, porous woods. These are typically, but not limited to, woods such as spalted maple and buckeye burl. The best way to stabilize wood is to place the wood into a stabilizing liquid, place the two into a vacuum chamber, draw all of the air out, wait for the bubbles to stop, then slowly allow air back into the chamber whereby the wood will act as a sponge and draw the liquid deep into the pores of the wood. Lastly, put the wood into a heating chamber, such as a toaster oven, and "cook" the wood for approximately 1 hour at 200 degrees.
