Dr. Morton’s passion for surgery began as a teenager when she started working at a local veterinary hospital in upstate New York. Her goals and aspirations to become a board certified surgeon were solidified during her employment as a surgical nurse at a specialty practice in northern Colorado while completing her undergraduate degree. She then received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Western University of Health Sciences in 2013. During vet school, Dr. Morton was the founding president of the surgery club and was granted a research fellowship award. She also received the surgical proficiency award from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS). Dr. Morton’s post-doctoral training continued with a one-year competitive academic internship at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She then had the opportunity to stay in the Midwest at the University of Illinois for a three-year surgical residency. While at the University, Dr. Morton received training in laparoscopic and arthroscopic techniques, wound management, surgical oncology, fracture repair, general soft tissue surgery as well as orthopedic and neurologic surgery. She particularly enjoys performing minimally invasive surgical techniques to aid in patient comfort and to accelerate the recovery process. In her free time, Dr. Morton enjoys traveling, horseback riding, listening to live music, and spending time with family and friends. She is also thrilled to be mom to her precious cat, Dylan. Dr. Morton raised him from a newborn kitten, even bottle fed him when she first adopted him 13 years ago.
