In Episode 1 of our 4 part Doko Ga TV Hokkaido summer series, we head to the remote islands off Japan’s northern coast for an incredible start to the journey. First stop is Rishiri Island, where we learn about one of Hokkaido’s most prized delicacies, fresh uni (sea urchin). From the waters where it’s harvested to tasting it at peak freshness, this was a hands on experience with one of the region’s most famous seafood specialties. Then we travel to nearby Rebun Island. We visit the nostalgic Kita no Kanaria-tachi schoolhouse movie set, enjoy a colorful kaisendon seafood bowl, and take in the dramatic views at Sukoton Cape.
