During World War 2, American and French officials pushed for Operation Dragoon to advance. The idea was for the Allied forces to invade Southern France in conjunction with Operation Overlord - the famous Allied landing in Normandy. However, a lack of resources led to the cancellation of Operation Dragoon, and it wasn’t until August that the scheme was finally implemented.
