Dedicated to C. Happy Birthday! 海闊天空, often referred to as “Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies” in English, is one of the most renowned anthem of Cantonese rock music. It was produced by Beyond, the most influential Hong Kong rock band formed in 1983, and written by the band’s lead vocalist, Wong Ka Kui (黃家駒), who died in a tragic accident around a month and a half after the song’s release in 1993. With its theme about pursing freedom and dreams, this song remains one of the most influential within various Chinese speaking communities across the globe even today. Other translations of the song include “Under a Vast Sky”, “Ocean Wide Sky High”, “Vast Seas, Clear Skies”, and “Clear Skies, Vast Ocean”. Beyond also recorded a Japanese version, “Haruka naru yume ni ~Far Away~” (遥かなる夢に 〜Far Away〜; literally "A Faraway Dream").
