Typhoon Krathon continues to approach Taiwan after losing some strength in the early hours of Wednesday. Meteorologists say the storm’s predicted path has changed. It is now expected to travel along the west coast of the island after making landfall. The typhoon’s structure is likely to degrade quickly and dissipate into a tropical depression before it goes back out to the sea. Let’s hear from the weather experts. After it makes landfall on Taiwan, we may see it weaken further into a tropical depression. Chia Hsin-hsing Meteorologist Right now it seems that it will weaken into a tropical depression as early as Friday morning or as late as Friday evening. There are two main factors at play: the terrain, which will damage the storm’s structure; and the intrusion of cold and dry air, which will cause it to lose strength quickly. Still, winds of up to 46 meters per second may sweep Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung and Chiayi on Wednesday into the early hours of Thursday.
