We return to an area that we had explored only five months earlier but this time we did not venture into the wonder that is Ogre Canyon. Instead we hiked straight up to the ogre canyon ridge and explored as much of the area as we could in a day. We found the ridge caves (more like ridge holes) on top of the ridge, we also found an official trail rising up and down on the toe of Bedson Ridge. We discovered a tunnel in the toe of Bedson Ridge still used to this day for the trains. We also came across a heard of wild sheep, a massive rock scree and more importantly hiking access to the top of the main plateau of Bedson Ridge. Bedson Ridge is basically the beginning of the rocky mountains on the north side of the Athabasca River. It is very visible when driving towards Brule, AB but access to this ridge isn't easy so this may be why hiking in this area isn't popular. You do need a high clearance vehicle in order to drive the 7.5km just to Ogre Canyon, after which just climbing up the ridge and walking the entire path will be a full day in itself.
