Connolly's investigation begins with him setting up a stall at a car boot sale outside London, offering cheap cigarettes to genuine customers - to see whether they'll put a bargain before their health. He admits he has no idea who's made them and where they're from - yet still makes sale after sale. Connolly discovers that once you know where to look and who to ask, illegal cigarettes are plentiful, right across Britain. He gets hold of fake tobacco that's 10 times as dangerous as the genuine product and reveals that some tobacco has dangerously high levels of the toxic metals cadmium and lead. The shocking investigation ends with Connolly posing as a black market buyer, setting up a deal to buy 20,000 pounds worth of smuggled tobacco - before confronting the dealer.
