Julius Caesar - His Life, Achievements and Assassination

Julius Caesar was a Roman general, orator and eventually the dictator of Rome. He was a successful soldier and led his legions into victorious battles in Spain and Gaul, and conducted the first Roman incursion into the British Isles. As one-third of the First Triumvirate with Pompey and Crassus, Julius Caesar was a Consul of Rome before eventually becoming Dictator Perpetuus or Dictator for life. Caesar introduced reforms to the Roman Republic that resulted in a prosperous time for Rome, but the senate and those against his reforms were worried he might choose to rule as a king and abolish the senate altogether, and so on the fifteenth of March 44 BCE (also known as the Ides of March), Julius Caesar was assassinated, and upon his death and the rise of his grandnephew and adopted son Octavian as Augustus, the first Emperor of Rome, the Roman Republic came to an end and the Roman Empire began. — THIS VIDEO WAS SPONSORED BY HISTORY HIT — This video was kindly sponsored by History Hit, the "Netflix for History."
