INFORMATION Green Chartreuse is an herbal liqueur made from over 130 different herbs by Carthusian monks from the Grand Abbey of Chartreuse, France. After obtaining the original recipe in 1605 from a French nobleman, the monks began producing the drink as an "Elixir of Long Life." Due to its popularity, however, it has since been produced as a commercial liqueur. In an homage to its legendary status, the shade of green known as Chartreuse was named after the drink.
