Hello 😊 Here’s my transcription of the Michael Jackson song “Rock With You”. This song comes from his album "Off The Wall" which was released in 1979 and produced by Quincy Jones. The bass player on this track was Bobby Watson. You can find the transcription on Muzento under the Advanced Songs category. *Tune down a half step to match the recording* And yet another song where I've heard it a bunch of times before but didn't realize how much was going on in this song! There's like a whole bunch of other stuff going on! This one has turned into a kind of hidden gem for me in the groove and feel that they came up with in this one. Thanks for the suggestion Russ ;) I have to give hats off to the drummer on this track… wow. It just feels amazing. Such tasty playing all around. This one is all about the the rhythm and the articulations (note length). The harmony is very straight forward, basically root, 5th, octave kind of stuff. But again, it's the rhythm and the note length that makes his line so special and challenging to play. I'd love to know how much Quincy was involved with this bass line? I used the articulation of a staccato with a long tone. When that's on a quarter note, I give it the same length as I would to an 8th note. I tried writing a few bars with it as an 8th note instead of a quarter note, but it looked too busy and confusing. I prefer to see articulations rather than exact note lengths in general. The less information has to take in, the easier it is to read ;) This one will challenge your patience and and your ability to feel the 16th note subdivision. It's got a great feel though and is fun to play along with.
