BODO had not left Boston until the late morning on Thursday. With that being said there was no D7 to be run out of Dover for the NHN crew that day. Instead 1801 was fired up in Ossipee and was the power for the day. 1801 is a high hood GP18 and was built in 1960 by EMD for the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad (The Rock Island) as CRIP 1341. In 1984 it was purchased by the New Hampshire based company New England Southern Railroad from the Rock Island Railroad. It was repainted into New England Southern's John Deer green paint scheme and was renumbered as 503. It was put to work in 1985 all over the Nessie System. In 2006 it was again sold but now to the New Hampshire Northcoast Railroad where it remains today. It was repainted into the NHN green paint scheme and renumbered as 1801. The number was chosen based off of it being a GP18 and being the first GP18 on the NHN roster (18-01). For those of you unfamiliar with the New Hampshire Northcoast Railroad it is a shortline railroad (Class 3) based out of Ossipee, NH. They own 2 GP38-2 locomotives (3823 & 3825) and a GP18 (1801). They also have a leased GP38-2 (FURX 5509). NHN runs M-F all year round and are commonly known for their sand trains between Ossipee, NH and Boston, MA to Boston Sand & Gravel. They also serve several other customers along the line which receive steel, propane, sand, and gas. It is not often you will see the 1801 lead a train on the New Hampshire Northcoast. In this case we defiantly lucked out with our trip over to Dover. In this video you will see 1801 run between Dover, NH and Ossipee, NH with a line of tank and hoppers cars. We will chase the train from the beginning of the Conway Branch north to Hayes where 1801 will perform a runaround and head back down to Rochester at Tri City where it will set off tank cars and pick up hopper cars. After working Tri City we will chase all the way up to Ossipee where we end the chase. A special thanks to Ben Bourri (Merrimack & Saco Productions) for taking me along for such a crazy day. "Should have just stayed in Dover". Thanks for watching! Taken 03/25/2021.
