Jonathan Lecompte was killed on March 14, in Lumberton. According to authorities, he was trying to help the victim of a carjacking when he was hit by the car jacker. Some viewers may find this video distrubing, viewer discretion is advised. Lecompte was hit by Driggers, police said. Lecompte died at the hospital, according to authorities. He was 38 years old. Investigators said Driggers jumped into LeCompte’s Department of Transportation vehicle. Video shows Lecompte firing several gunshots at Driggers before he put the truck in reverse and backed away. On the video, shouts from the crowd are heard of people telling everyone to get out of the way because Driggers was driving back at a high rate of speed. That's when Lecompte was hit. Lumberton police officers saw Driggers as he was driving away. Officers arrested Driggers a short time later after he wrecked the stolen vehicle on Selma Road near Highway 41. The North Carolina Department of Transportation provided a comment on the incident. Driggers faces several charges, including first-degree murder and larceny of a motor vehicle. He is due in court on May 24. Authorities are holding Driggers without bond at the Robeson County Detention Center. They are keeping a close eye on him because authorities said Driggers may harm himself. Lecompte’s family is asking for privacy.
