American artist Leslie Hewitt (b. 1977) inaugurates the Contemporary Focus series at the Menil with her work "Where Paths Meet, Turn Away, Then Align Again (Distilled moment from over 72 hours of viewing the civil rights era archive at the Menil Collection in Houston, Texas)," 2012. Hewitt will be in conversation with Courtney J. Martin, Deputy Director and Chief Curator at Dia Art Foundation. About Leslie Hewitt Hewitt lives and works in New York City. She received her BFA from The Cooper Union School of Art in 2000 and earned her MFA from Yale University in 2004. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, among others. In 2016, a significant solo show at Power Plant, Toronto and the SculptureCenter, Long Island City, entitled Leslie Hewitt: Collective Stance, featured these sculptures. Her work has been included in notable group exhibitions such as "Photo-Poetics: An Anthology at the Guggenheim" (2015–16), "New Photography 2009" at MoMA, and the 2008 Whitney Biennial.
