He won every award the game could give him, yet he never wore the green and gold of Australia. This is the story of the greatest player never to represent his country. It's a story that deserves respect. If you're watching, use the Hype feature right now to back this legend's truth. The man they called Horrie grew up in Surry Hills, a working-class corner of Sydney. Born on January 5, 1957, Hastings built himself into a powerhouse. He found his home with the Eastern Suburbs Roosters, making his debut in 1976. The Roosters needed someone tough. Hastings was not tall or physically imposing. But he had something else. He had a low center of gravity that made him nearly impossible to tackle. He had an engine that never quit, covering endless ground. By 1977, at just 20 years old, he had taken over the halfback position completely. While he could pass like a traditional No. 7, his real gift was defense. Hastings loved the collision. He regularly topped tackle counts usually belonging to locks and hookers. His teammates gave him a nickname: Horrie.
