I just received a huge shipment of Reviol whistles. I got the small whistle head with A, G, F, and E bodies, and the large head with Eb, D, Db, and C bodies. I had initially placed a much smaller order, but due to a couple of hiccups in fulfillment, Maurice threw in several extra bodies to give me a full set. As a result, I have been in happy whistle heaven since Saturday and my wife, as well as my friends and family are sick to death of my chatter about whistle physics. I'll be making additional videos for the various whistle bodies in the future. Notes: Since it shares the whistle head with several other bodies, the A ends up being a large bore whistle. It's the loudest of the three at the top, but has the best resonance at the bottom. I think it would be ideal for outdoor playing or busking, where the MK or even the Goldie might not have enough presence. Also, the small whistle head has a surprising amount of backpressure. I have always believed Reviol whistles to be deficient in the backpressure area, and while the large whistle head is easy blowing, the small one needs quite a firm breath to play. I was pleasantly surprised by this, as it shares a tactile characteristic that I've come to appreciate in the Goldie whistles. This Goldie is a hard blowing A, and I've long wished that I'd just gotten a medium blower like my low F and D. Cleaning the windway (sanded down popsicle stick and toothpaste, and polishing the fipple block with toothpaste on a cotton swab) has improved the tone, but I think I'd have been happier with a medium blowing whistle. Unfortunately, it's just one of those things you have to try before you can know. That being said, a medium or soft blower might have a slightly different tone. This is a good whistle, just not my favorite of my Goldies. Another plus is that the Reviol, like the MK, is anodized, which means that its finish is harder than the Goldie, and more resistant to corrosion. The finish itself feels very nice, and is extremely grippy, like fine sandpaper.
