Project Started: January 18th 2025 Finished: January 25th 2025 Project Description: When I first played Rhythm Tengoku, I fell in love with it, It's absolutely one of my favorite games to date, but a problem arises for those that want to play it for the first time, a problem even I encountered that soured my experience with the game at first: the Japanese sound effects. Even in the 2 translation projects: Rhythm Heaven Silver and Rhythm Heaven Advance, the sound effects for the games are still in Japanese. Now, it's mostly not a big deal, the songs are still good even in Japanese and most games use sound effects that aren't voicelines. But the main problem comes from the 3rd game in the first set: Marching Orders I think it's pretty fair to assume the average person does not understand the terms sarge uses for turning left or right, meaning that for those people, it's about memorisation, and don't even get me STARTED on Marching Orders 2! Took me forever to understand and beat that game BUT NOT ALL HOPE IS LOST, a lot of brave souls have tried to fix this! Using patches and audio editing from the raw ROM many have successfully integrated the english voice of sarge from Megamix into Tengoku "So wait, if it's already been done, why did you make this?!" you might be asking. And well, just like almost everything I do that's already been done before (see my Funkadelix Rewritten Project) those attempts aren't good, or at least not that good. The main problem comes from 2 things: 1) The word "Attention" is what replaces "Zentai", but in English, sarge's "Attention" starts a bit earlier than "Zentai", meaning just replacing the audio causes it to feel really wonky and off compared to how it is in Megamix. 2) Since Marching Orders 2 never came to Rhythm Heaven Megamix, there isn't a female version of sarge that can be used for Marching Orders 2, I mean sure, you could just pitch up sarges voice, which is what a lot of people do, but it still sounds odd. For the first problem, I just removed the "a" in attention, it's barely noticeable and all it does is make the line feel really weird (maybe in the future I'll find a way to make it work but for now it sounds good). As for the second problem, luckily, a very talented modder in the Rhythm Heaven Modding community named Tox (which you might know from his mods that port sequels that didn't get to megamix into it) actually made a mod for Megamix that adds Marching Orders 2 to it. Not only that, he also got someone to record English and Korean versions of the female sarge's voices! (and also just as a side tangent, HOLY MOLY, the voice actress he got to do the lines is incredibly talented, shoutout to ‪@cherryberryfaygo‬, you've done an amazing job! I aspire to be as good as you!). So with these two problems resolved I got to work, feeling motivated again after a while of not doing much I wanted to make it work,I wanted it to be definitive, so using what I know about the Rhythm Tengoku Decompilation I went at it And the results? THEY'RE GREAT! At least in my opinion of course. Some could be better but it's leagues better than all the other attempts I've seen so I'll take it as a win! Post evaluation: IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, i'm still happy about that, i'm not used to things going this smoothly, not that it was that smooth, I had problems but the kind people in the Rhythm Heaven Modding discord put up with my whining and helped me big time, so thanks y'all! Even tho the idea of this project was really really simple, I learnt a lot. I finally stopped using audacity and moved completely to reaper. So for the rest of my audio projects i'm gonna be using it instead. My understanding of the decomp is growing, it's still not too high but I'm working on it. The only shame is that this project barely has "me" in it, as I didn't really record audio like the other voice projects I like to do, so I hope to change that next time around! Time taken: About 8 hours? I started conceptualising this project when the weekend was almost over and then the next week i spent an entire day on it this channel isnt rhythm heaven related, its just a place ill upload videos of projects i want to share with discord friends.
