Here's how to spend one day in Uruguay's sprawling capital city, Montevideo! There's not a huge amount of things to see and do so we've compiled a list of the best that you can squeeze into one day! Start in the Ciudad Vieja, where most of the major landmarks are located. In Plaza Independencia you can see the iconic Palacio Salvo and the ornate Teatro Solis. Then stroll down the pedestrianised streets until you reach the Mercado del Puerto, where you can buy souvenirs and eat asado from any number of incredible eateries. Make sure to visit the Palacio Legislativo, the seat of Uruguayan government, and also check out the Pocitos and Punta Carretas neighbourhoods a little further to the east, where you'll find upscale shopping and beautiful beaches.
