I think it's safe to say that back in 1974 Tommy Heinsohn wanted to draft Wallace "Mickey" Johnson for his Boston Celtics. Or maybe he was just mind-blown about how fine Mickey was. Who can blame him? The man was 6-10, yet moved like a guard and passed like one, while scoring more than 10 points per game for the majority of his long career. During the game Heinsohn endlessly praised Johnson's defensive abilities, versatility, rebounding and ended up declaring that Johnson was suffering from politics as Albert King supposedly had the starting spot due to a bigger contract. Who knows? All I can say is that Mickey Johnson was definitely better in this game than King. And it looked like an NBA team could have benefited from Johnson on its roster for years to come, however, this was his final season in the pros. Too bad he didn't get to close it out with another double-double with assists. Some of those gimmies by Nets teammates should have been made... March 30, 1986.
